At 74, Jay Leno planning for death, leaves chunk of cash to cars – ‘no one lives forever

Jay Leno, the 74-year-old comedian and former host of *The Tonight Show*, is preparing for life away from the spotlight. With a lifelong passion for cars, he is now making end-of-life plans and arranging a major donation to support a future automobile museum. After leaving late-night television, he hosted the web series *Jay Leno’s Garage*, sharing his love of cars and motorcycles with millions of fans.

In recent years, Leno has faced serious health challenges. In November 2022, he suffered severe burns in a garage fire, followed just two months later by a motorcycle accident that left him with multiple broken bones. Despite these setbacks, he has remained active and focused on caring for his wife, Mavis.

Married since 1980, the couple chose not to have children. Now 77, Mavis is battling dementia, and in April 2024, a judge granted Leno conservatorship over her affairs. Court records state she has been “gradually losing awareness of time, space, and even her husband.” Her neurologist noted that Leno continues to care for her with “unwavering devotion.”

Leno is also organizing his estate. His plans include setting aside funds for Mavis’ care and placing his $52 million car and motorcycle collection into the Leno Marital Trust. After both pass, the remaining assets will go to the JDM Foundation, which will establish a museum to display his collection. He also plans to leave $7 million to family members.

As Leno prepares to step away from public life, fans continue to admire his humor, resilience, and generosity. His story now reflects not just a legendary career, but also deep commitment to love, legacy, and compassion during a difficult chapter.
