Shingles comes from the same virus that causes chickenpox, Varicella (chickenpox). After recovery, the Varicella-zoster virus stays dormant in nerve tissue.

It can reactivate when the immune system is weakened by stress, illness, or aging, leading to Shingles.

Early signs often include burning, tingling, or stabbing pain in one area, followed by a rash that appears on one side of the body along a nerve path.

Even after the rash fades, pain can linger. Some develop Postherpetic neuralgia, which may last for months or longer.

Shingles itself isn’t directly contagious, but the virus can spread and cause chickenpox in someone who isn’t protected.

Early treatment, vaccination, and paying attention to symptoms can reduce severity and help prevent long-term complications.
