Based on discussions with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan, I have been asked to postpone the deployment of destructive force to Iran this evening, provided that the Islamic Republic of Iran agrees to FULL, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Hormuz Strait. I agree to suspend bombing and attacks on Iran for a period of two weeks. This will be a bilateral CEASEFIRE!

The reason for this is that we have already achieved and exceeded all military objectives and are not far from a definitive agreement for long-term peace with Iran and peace in the Middle East. We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran, and we believe it provides a functional basis for negotiations. Almost all previously disputed points have been agreed upon between the United States and Iran, but the two-week period will allow the agreement to be finalized and implemented. On behalf of the United States, as President, and also as a representative of the countries of the Middle East, it is an honor that this long-standing issue is close to resolution.
