For years, I cheated on my wife, convinced she knew nothing. Then one afternoon, I saw her in a coffee shop,

PART 2 — THE FOLDER THAT EXPOSED MY DOUBLE LIFE

I stared at the thick folder sitting on our kitchen table.

Claire stood across from me, her arms folded, her expression strangely calm.

For the first time in our nine years of marriage, I couldn’t read what she was thinking.

“What is this?” I asked.

“Five years of things you thought I would never discover.”

My stomach tightened.

I opened the folder.

The first page contained a photograph of me entering a hotel with a woman named Vanessa.

I recognized the date immediately.

It was our seventh wedding anniversary.

I had told Claire that an important client needed me in Washington.

Instead, I had spent the night with Vanessa.

Underneath the photograph was a hotel receipt.

My name.

My credit card.

The exact amount.

I turned the page.

Another photograph.

Another woman.

Another hotel.

Then came screenshots of messages I thought I had permanently deleted.

My hands began trembling.

“Where did you get these?”

Claire pulled out a chair and sat down.

“Does it matter?”

“Have you been spying on me?”

She laughed quietly, but there was no happiness in it.

“That’s interesting, Marcus. You have photographic evidence of your affairs in front of you, and somehow you’re still trying to make me the villain.”

I swallowed.

“How long have you known?”

“Three years.”

The words hit me harder than anything else in that folder.

Three years.

For three years, she had cooked my meals, washed our children’s clothes, celebrated birthdays, and slept beside me knowing exactly what kind of husband I was.
