Three bulls were grazing in a pasture when they learned their rancher was bringing in a new bull. Worried about losing their cows, each quickly defended what he had. The oldest declared, “I’ve been here five years, and I’m keeping all 100 of my cows.” The second insisted his 50 cows were staying, while the youngest proudly said, “I’ve only been here a year, but I earned my 10 cows. I’m not giving them away either.”
Soon, a huge transport truck arrived, carrying an enormous bull weighing nearly 4,700 pounds. As the newcomer stepped onto the pasture, his massive size made the other bulls nervous. The oldest immediately reconsidered his position, suggesting he might be willing to give up some cows. The second bull also began thinking about making room for the powerful newcomer.
The youngest bull, however, refused to panic. Although he was much smaller, he stood his ground and showed no intention of running away. The older bulls expected him to challenge the newcomer, but his actions revealed something different. He wasn’t looking for a fight; he simply didn’t want to let fear control him.
The enormous bull continued walking across the pasture, barely paying attention to the others. Once the youngest had made his point, he calmly returned to grazing. The other bulls were left speechless, realizing that his confidence had surprised them more than any physical challenge could have.
The encounter left behind a simple lesson: courage isn’t always about being the strongest or defeating someone bigger. Sometimes, it’s about standing your ground, keeping your dignity, and refusing to let fear decide who you are. The youngest bull didn’t need to prove he could win a fight. He only needed to show that he wasn’t afraid.
