I Called Police About Someone Outside My Window, but Someone Had Called First

Just after 3 a.m., a strange scratching sound outside my bedroom window woke me. Since my husband had died two years earlier, I had been living alone. Frightened, I called the police. However, the dispatcher told me something that made my blood run cold: someone had already called fifteen minutes earlier, using my full name and address. Even more disturbing, the call had supposedly come from inside my house.

The dispatcher explained that the frightened woman had reported someone outside my bedroom window before suddenly disconnecting. I insisted I hadn’t called before and told him nobody else lived with me. Officers arrived shortly afterward and searched every room, but found no one inside. All the doors and windows were locked. However, they discovered small footprints beneath my bedroom window that continued toward the sidewalk.

The following morning, I called my daughter, who lived several states away. After hearing what happened, she admitted she’d experienced something frightening herself. She had dreamed about our old house and remembered standing in the side yard, staring toward my bedroom window. When I asked when she had awakened, she quietly answered, “A little before three.” The timing was almost identical to the mysterious emergency call at 2:47 a.m. She insisted she hadn’t contacted the police or anyone else.

Later, I discovered an old family photograph showing my daughter as a child, wearing a yellow raincoat and looking directly toward my bedroom window. She remembered that day clearly, explaining that she had been waiting for me to wave from upstairs. Although the memory was innocent, seeing the photograph made the strange coincidence even harder to forget.

I replaced the locks, installed additional lighting, and checked every window before going to bed. I still couldn’t explain who had made the mysterious call or why it seemed connected to my daughter’s dream. Perhaps it was an unusual coincidence, but one thought stayed with me: someone had known I was in danger and had tried to protect me. That night, the house was quiet again.
