He had done everything \u201cright.\u201d Flowers, manners, confidence\u2014he even insisted on paying, saying, \u201cA man pays on the first date.\u201d It felt old-fashioned in a charming way, like something out of a movie.<\/p>\n
But the next morning, everything changed.<\/p>\n
I woke up, made my coffee, and grabbed my phone. There was a notification waiting for me.<\/p>\n
A payment request.<\/p>\n
At first, I thought it had to be a mistake. Maybe he accidentally sent it to the wrong person? But no\u2014it was clearly from him. And the note attached made my stomach drop.<\/p>\n
It wasn\u2019t just a simple split-the-bill request.<\/p>\n
He had itemized everything.<\/p>\n
Dinner, drinks, tax, tip\u2026 even the flowers.<\/p>\n

I just stared at my screen, rereading it, trying to process what I was seeing.<\/p>\n
The same guy who confidently told me \u201cAbsolutely not\u201d when I reached for my wallet\u2026 was now asking me to reimburse him?<\/p>\n
It felt less like a misunderstanding and more like a complete switch in personality.<\/p>\n
I started replaying the date in my head. The charm, the confidence, the way he took control of everything\u2014it suddenly felt different. Less genuine. More\u2026 calculated.<\/p>\n
Had that moment at the table been about kindness\u2014or control?<\/p>\n
